Southampton, Store Support Office

We believe anyone can improve their home to make life better. From our Southampton Store Support office (SSO) we equip our stores, our people, and our whole business with everything it takes to help our millions of customers create a home they’ll love. Join us as a Product Manager - Supply Chain & Fulfilment and you’ll be a big part of this.

Role Purpose: As Product Manager in Supply Chain and Fulfilment, you will create and own a prioritised backlog with input from stakeholders from across B&Q in support of our strategic priorities and to maximise return on investment in technology for the B&Q business. You will identify opportunities to use technology to improve our proposition and increase our operational effectiveness within our supply chain, warehouse and fulfilment operations. You will also secure funding through the appropriate governance forums and working with stakeholders, PMO and Delivery teams, will ensure we unlock value and deliver against our investments. This role is within the Supply Chain & Logistics space, and will initially look at items such as our Warehouse Management System and how technology can support operational efficiency across our logistics network.

Key responsibilities

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver against a prioritised backlog for tech development working closely with key business stakeholders and aligning to the B&Q strategic priorities (including strengthening our eCommerce business, simplifying our operating model and building a world class fulfilment proposition) while using knowledge of retail and logistics best practice, trends and innovation. The backlog will cover opportunities looking ahead 12-18 months and will regularly be updated (at least quarterly to align with Group planning cycles)
  • Support early design work alongside the Enterprise Architects to estimate effort & cost and identify appropriate delivery route for new requirements (including creating new projects, changes to existing projects, rapid response channel for small changes and service requests)
  • Use data where available to identify and quantify opportunities
  • Work closely with Group Technology teams to provide input from B&Q to support planning
  • Influence the roadmap for major Group technology and digital projects (e.g., Data, Cloud) to shape scope and prioritisation for the Group roadmap
  • Prepare priority projects for funding through the standard approval process, optimising returns on the B&Q technology investment and keeping within the budget (capex, revex and opex) with support from Finance
  • Identify innovation that may be of interest to B&Q and the Kingfisher Group and collaborate around potential adoption opportunities
  • Input into the strategic direction of technology at B&Q (the 3–5-year view) including decision making around the optimal blend of group and banner specific solutions
  • Support the selection of technology providers (e.g., software, devices, infrastructure) as required
  • Help create an agile culture within the B&Q business, particularly within business areas involved in technology projects – demonstrating how technology can help deliver value and outcomes iteratively
  • Support the identification of improvements that can be made to ways of working around B&Q and Kingfisher group in developing and deploying technology
  • Initially, this role will not work directly with its own development squad, as the majority of the focus is on delivering value through our vendors and group managed technology teams

Key Business Relationships:

  • This role will be based within the Supply Chain and Fulfilment Technology Team, and will require you to build effective working relationships with the stakeholders across supply chain, logistics, and digital, as well as our logistics and technology partners.
  • You will need to develop a good understanding of the business processes in these areas and the technology that supports them so they can identify and understand how technology can enable and drive better ways of working.
  • The role will also work closely with various teams in Group Technology to represent B&Q in planning and prioritisation discussions, as well as being part of the relevant governance and prioritisation forums.
  • The roles will also be outward looking and understand the broader retail technology landscape including recent innovation and how other retailers are using technology to drive a better customer experience and operation. This will require developing relationships with technology vendors/partners.
  • The role is a key part of the B&Q Product & Technology team which owns the technology roadmap for B&Q to enable the future growth of the business, ensure efficiencies and create competitive advantage.

Required skills & experience

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of digital product management, governance models and delivery of tech initiatives
  • Preferred experience in working with logistics technologies including warehouse management, carrier management and order management
  • Experience in backlog management and prioritisation frameworks
  • Demonstrable evidence of building relationships and influencing across work levels, up to and including senior leadership
  • Business case development and budget management
  • Track record of being a structured problem solver able to see, develop and focus on the bigger picture.
  • Be a product thought leader and help to embed a product culture in B&Q
  • Comfortable navigating and simplifying ambiguity
