Key responsibilities

This role delivers our strategy to turbo-charge B&Q’s onsite optimisation and Findability improvements. As the product and proposition owner, this role leads on findability development, growth, engagement and continual optimisation.

The Digital Optimisation Lead will have a balance of strategic digital skills, hands-on experience of leading significant product discovery change and onsite improvement of metrics through optimisation, as well as provide confident direction to the product development team.

This role requires experience leading onsite optimisation with a relentless analytical rigour, agile project management ability, commercial acumen, along with a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver a successful, world-class optimisation strategy and plan. Utilising a data-oriented mindset and innovative creative skills, the ideal candidate is comfortable with optimisation and conversion fundamentals while unafraid to innovate to increase awareness and engagement.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Take strategic ownership of relevant KPIs and ensure that all product discovery optimisations and developments are aligned to drive performance and have clear metrics, tracking mechanisms and targets. Highlight under-performance of metrics and develop plans in the roadmap and backlog in conjunction with the Technology team to address these.
  • Deliver strategies to drive overall conversion growth through planning, execution, team management, and performance-based measurements to boost B&Q’s Get To Product, Add To Basket, Item Per Basket and Conversion
  • Deliver the roadmap aligned to the product discovery strategy to deliver product and proposition enhancement, as well as new product discovery products to market, leading the development and engineering teams through a matrix leadership approach.
  • Collaborate with POs, BAs and engineering teams to develop, refine and prioritise the product backlog for Findability. Translate high-level product roadmaps into achievable product backlog items following agile ways of working and methodologies. Provide insight for overall product roadmap based on specialised knowledge in this area.
  • Brief UX and UI researchers and designers to develop user journeys & designs that support the features well. Work with development teams to establish and document technical details needed for user stories. Work with QA, test and release teams to ensure all features are of the highest quality and delivered bug free.
  • Own onsite performance using comprehensive knowledge of the digital customer to analyse the key onsite metrics across the conversional funnel, click through, page performance and search performance, leading team to deliver against KPIs
  • Work closely alongside specialist third party agencies to interpret data and deliver a roadmaps of change to leverage tactics that drive optimisation and continuous improvement
  • Expand organisational, senior management and colleague understanding of findability and optimisation, through clearly communicated industry knowledge, findings from strategies and initiatives, and a future facing ambition.
  • Ideate with tech development, business transformation, data science teams to drive growth through innovation
  • Consult both internally and externally on the opportunities and challenges with regards to findability trends, search, navigation and recommendation techniques, as well as tools, data, tech stacks and developments within the findability space.

Lead and line manage the Findability team. Drive high performance and support developing key skill sets needed to support the Product Discovery strategy.

Required skills & experience

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Direct experience leading and managing onsite optimisation, with proven results in growing performance within conversion
  • Strong understanding and experience in working with delivery teams, business analysts and UX experts to create and deliver industry-leading findability features and innovations.
  • Proven track record of delivering significant growth and optimisation across all key optimisation metrics
  • Significant experience managing Third Party delivery and budgets
  • Hands-on experience with leading analytic tools like Content Square, Google Analytics, data.ai, and/or others
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically, while also demonstrating the ability to be a creative problem solver who is passionate about testing new initiatives
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment
  • Proven influencing skills, storytelling, presenting skills and ability to develop relationships across key stakeholders
  • Experience working effectively with different internal and external teams to ensure plans are executed seamlessly, with a high level of buy-in and impact. Provide a clear cross-team vision and plan, articulating strategies and tactics to align colleagues across multiple teams
  • Passionate self-starter, decisive and able to move with speed to implement ideas.
